How I'm trying to build my dream community (and dream business) as the founder of a girls travel movement

People ask me all the time: "So what exactly is Dream Life Getaway?" And honestly, it's hard to answer in one sentence, because it's so many things at once. It's trips. It's a community. It's conversations. It's beach clean-ups, merch made with care, calls with cool girls from all over the world, and a whole lot more.

So I thought, let me take you behind the scenes and share what building Dream Life Getaway is actually trying to do, because it's so much more than just ‘girls’ trips’. 

Hosting girls' trips in incredible destinations

Sure, Dream Life Getaway is about bringing girls together in the most incredible places on earth. We're talking small surf towns, destinations where life moves slowly and intentionally, places that feel less like a holiday and more like living life differently.

The whole idea has always been simple: what if we could live our dream lives, even just for a week, and do it together? What if the destination wasn't just a backdrop but actually shaped who you became while you were there? What if a slow-paced, beautiful environment surrounded by nature & ocean and with plenty of digital nomads, travellers, locals and business owners in the area, inspires girls to live life boldly and on their own terms.

That's what we try to create on every single trip. And seeing girls arrive as strangers and leave as lifelong friends? I don't think I'll ever get used to how beautiful that is. 

Taking personal calls with cool girls from all over the world

One of my absolute favorite parts of building Dream Life Getaway is the calls we get to have with girls who want to join us.  Remote working queens, doctors, girls writing books, girls starting run clubs, girls working in radio, girls building businesses from their laptops in coffee shops around the world.

You girls are so cool. I mean it. And the fact that you all find your way to Dream Life Getaway, that you're all craving the same kind of adventure and connection,  it makes this community feel like something really, truly special.

Building a worldwide community of 150+ girls who live life boldly

Somewhere along the way, this little idea of mine became a worldwide community of 150+ girls. I'm still kind of in disbelief when I type that. Girls from different countries, different backgrounds, different life stages, all connected by this shared belief that life is meant to be lived fully and on your own terms.

Dream Life Getaway was always meant to be more than just another community. A worldwide girls community built around connection, adventure, freedom, and becoming the version of yourself you dream about, while simultaneously making the world a better place. That sentence lives in my heart like a mission statement I never actually had to write down. up until setting up our website.

Working with local NGOs

Part of that bigger vision means showing up for the communities and ecosystems that host us. We work with local NGOs to make the ocean accessible and fun for everyone, creating opportunities for local kids to surf, play, and belong. <3

Watching kids in the same water we're paddling around in, laughing and riding waves for the first time? That's another one of those moments that reminds you why you do all of this in the first place.

Partnering with local businesses, chefs, and surf instructors

We prioritize working with local businesses, local chefs, and local surf instructors on every trip, not just because they're the best at what they do (they really are), but because it matters to us that our trips actively support the people who call these places home.

The goal is always the same: to help them build and live their own version of their dream business and life. Because if Dream Life Getaway is about women living life on their own terms, that shouldn't stop at our community.

Managing a growing international team

Behind all of this is a small but growing international team, a group of girls scattered around the world, working remotely, working flexibly, working in a way that actually fits the kind of lives we're all trying to build.

I love that Dream Life Getaway isn't just creating experiences for girls who want freedom and flexibility. We're trying to create that within our own team too. Because why build a dream community if you're not willing to give the people building it their own version of a dream life? <3

Beach clean-ups

We believe you leave every place better (& cleaner than we found it),  as a reminder of the incredible earth we're here to experience, explore, and protect.

And actually, there's something really grounding about picking up a trash bag and just quietly caring for a place that gives you so much.

Hosting community events and online monthly challenges

The community doesn't live only on trips. We host online monthly challenges, community events, and try our best to make the internet feel a little less lonely. <3

BecauseI think we all deserve spaces online and offline that actually make us feel good,  spaces that inspire rather than drain. Our monthly movement challenges, where girls from all over the world share their daily activity (one skiing in the mountains, another heading to pilates, someone else on a sunset walk by the ocean), are a perfect example of that. Different places, different lives, all within the same community.

Creating merch with sustainable fabrics and ethical makers

And then there's the merch. We make it using sustainable fabrics, thoughtfully designed in collaboration with ethical makers, because what we wear should reflect the values we stand for. It's a small detail, but it feels important. Everything we put into the world, even a t-shirt, should be done with intention.

Watching girls support each other's dreams

This might honestly be my favorite thing of all. In our community WhatsApp group, every single day I watch girls cheer each other on. Supporting creative projects, celebrating big life changes, rooting for businesses and dreams, from all over the world.

Two girls from different trips, both writing a book, connecting with each other. Two girls from different trips, both living in Stockholm, becoming friends. This community has a life of its own, and it is so, so beautiful to witness.

A community where each one of us can authentically just be

At the end of the day, what I'm trying to build is a community where every single one of us can authentically just be. Where we're doing cool girl things, taking care of our earth, and still being our wonderfully silly selves.

Where your dream life doesn't feel like some far-off fantasy, but something you can actually be living, one surf lesson, one sunset, one meaningful conversation at a time.
