Maldives Weather & Outfit Guide🌴
A packing guide for the Dream Life Getaway girls <3
So, you’ve booked your girls’ trip to the Maldives (!!!), and now comes the next question: what on earth do you pack?
Bikinis? Obviously. Twenty cute summer outfits? Tempting. A jumper? Maybe. Your entire bathroom cabinet? Please don’t :)
Packing for the Maldives is actually pretty easy once you know what to expect! Think warm tropical weather, salty hair, sandy feet, surf mornings, slow island afternoons, sunset yoga, snorkelling days and lots of time in and around the ocean.
There is just one important thing to know before you start throwing everything into your suitcase: during our Dream Life Getaway, we’re staying on Thulusdhoo, a local Maldivian island, rather than on a private resort island. This means you’ll get to experience a much more authentic side of the Maldives, but it also means being mindful of the local culture when it comes to what you wear.
So, here’s everything you need to know before packing your bags for the Maldives🐬🪸🐚

What is the weather like in the Maldives?
The Maldives has a tropical climate, so you can expect warm temperatures throughout the year. In other words: you can safely leave the winter wardrobe at home.
Most of your days will be spent in lightweight, breathable clothing, swimwear and sandals. Because of the tropical climate, you may also experience rain and humidity, so don’t panic if you see a little rain icon on your weather app before leaving. Tropical weather can change quickly.
And with so much of our week spent surfing, snorkeling, swimming, exploring and hanging around the beach, getting a little wet is kind of part of the experience anyway. ;) A lightweight sweater or cardigan is still worth bringing for the evenings, boat rides or anywhere with strong air conditioning.
What should I wear in the Maldives?
This is probably the most important thing to know when packing for our Maldives trip. Unlike the private resort islands you might have seen all over Instagram, Thulusdhoo is a local island. Daily life here follows Maldivian culture, traditions and Islamic customs, so we dress a little more mindfully when walking around town.
At designated Bikini Beaches, you can wear your bikini and swimwear as usual. When walking around the rest of the island, your stomach and chest should be covered. Your knees and shoulders can be visible, but avoid anything see-through.
It really doesn’t have to make getting dressed complicated. Think flowy maxi skirts, linen trousers, cute T-shirts, breezy dresses and light cover-ups that you can easily throw over your bikini.
And honestly, that’s part of what makes staying on a local island so special. We’re not experiencing the Maldives from inside a resort bubble; we’re sharing an island with the people who actually live there, eating at local restaurants and cafés and getting a little glimpse into everyday Maldivian life.

What to pack for your Maldives girls’ trip
Now for the fun part: what actually goes into the suitcase?
For beach & surf days 🌊
You’ll definitely want a few bikinis or swimsuits because there will be a lot of ocean time.
Our itinerary includes surf classes, a shark and stingray snorkelling tour, a sandbank visit, a sunset catamaran cruise and plenty of free time to head to the beach or jump back into the water.
One thing we definitely recommend is bringing at least one comfortable, secure swimsuit or bikini with good coverage for surfing, snorkeling and other water activities. While your favourite bikini might be perfect for relaxing on the beach, you’ll want something you can comfortably swim and move around in without having to adjust it constantly.
For activities like snorkeling, where you’ll be swimming, diving and hopefully getting some amazing underwater videos, choosing swimwear that stays securely in place will make the experience much more comfortable. Save your more delicate bikinis for relaxing at Bikini Beach and opt for something supportive and secure for our ocean adventures.

Pack:
Bikinis / swimsuits
A comfortable, secure swimsuit with good coverage for surfing & snorkelling
A light cover-up or sarong
Beach towel
Hat
Sunglasses
Plenty of sunscreen
Ocean-friendly sunscreen for water activities
Zinc for surfing
Mosquito spray / insect repellent
Shower towels are provided at our girls’ casa, but beach towels aren’t, so make sure to bring your own beach towel or sarong.
And definitely bring your sunscreen and mosquito spray from home rather than planning to buy them once you arrive. Thulusdhoo is a small island and most products have to be imported, so options can be limited and more expensive than what you’re used to at home.

For exploring the island 🌴
Thulusdhoo is small and basically everything is within walking distance, so you’ll probably spend a lot of time wandering around its sandy streets, grabbing coffee, going for little walks and exploring with the girls.
Think light, comfortable and easy:
T-shirts
Light trousers
Maxi skirts
Dresses
Long-sleeved shirts or light cover-ups
Trainers or comfortable sandals
The easiest trick is to bring pieces you can throw straight over your swimwear. That way, you can go from Bikini Beach to a coffee or lunch spot without needing to go back home to change.
For yoga, surfing & activities 🧘🏼♀️🏄🏼♀️
Our Maldives week has a little bit of everything.
There’ll be surf classes, sunset yoga, snorkelling, boat trips, a cacao ceremony, a beach bonfire and plenty of spontaneous island adventures in between.

Bring comfortable activewear for yoga. You’ll be moving around a lot during our activities, so comfort and coverage are definitely worth prioritising.
And one very important outfit assignment:
Bring one cute outfit for our sunset bonfire night. 🤍
What to wear in the evenings
Maldives evenings are still warm, so you don’t need to pack anything heavy.
A few dresses, skirts, lightweight trousers and cute tops will be more than enough for dinners and evenings with the girls. We’d also throw in one light sweater or cardigan just in case.
You definitely don’t need heels or anything super fancy. Island life is very relaxed, and most places are within walking distance.
Basically: cute, comfortable and something you won’t mind walking through a little sand in.

The little things you’ll be happy you packed
It’s always the tiny things you forget until you’re already on the other side of the world.
A few things we recommend making space for:
A reusable water bottle, mosquito spray, plenty of sunscreen, a little backpack or tote bag for day trips, earplugs, a journal, a book for slow afternoons and maybe a disposable camera for fun. Thulusdhoo is a small island, and most things are imported, so this is one trip where it’s worth bringing your favourite toiletries and essentials from home rather than assuming you can pick everything up once you arrive. If there’s something you know you’ll need during the week, pack it.
And because we know some of you will be documenting every second of the trip (as you should), don’t forget your camera, chargers, headphones and enough phone storage for approximately 7,000 photos and videos of the sunset :)
Do I need a travel adapter for the Maldives?
Yes, most likely!
The Maldives mainly uses Type G sockets, the same three-pin plugs used in the UK. If you’re travelling from most of Europe, you’ll likely need an adapter.
We recommend bringing a universal travel adapter so you can easily charge your phone, camera, laptop and anything else you bring along.
And while we’re talking about important things: double-check your passport, visa requirements (if applicable) and travel insurance before you leave.
Not quite as exciting as choosing bikinis, but as important in our opinion hehe ;)
What DON'T I need to pack?
Good news for the chronic overpackers among us: there are a few things you can leave at home.
Fresh shower towels are provided at our girls’ casa and can be washed during the trip if needed. There is also filtered drinking water available.
We have a basic hair dryer at the casa that everyone can use. That said, our hair dryers get a lotttt of love during girls’ trips, so if having one is an absolute must for you, bringing your own is never a bad idea.
And remember: Thulusdhoo is a small local island. You’ll find shops and little places to pick things up, but shopping is more limited than on a bigger island or at home. Most things have to be imported, so we especially recommend bringing your own sunscreen, mosquito spray, skincare, medication and any specific toiletries you know you’ll need.

One last packing tip...
Leave. some. space. in. your. suitcase.
For little souvenirs, random things you fall in love with on the island and, obviously... DLG merch hehe. 🤭
You really don’t need to bring your entire wardrobe to have the perfect Maldives trip. Pack things you feel comfortable in, respect the local culture, bring swimwear you can actually move in, stock up on sunscreen and mosquito spray before you leave, and prepare for your hair to be salty approximately 90% of the week.
Because when you look back on this trip, we promise you won’t remember whether you packed the perfect outfit for every single day.
You’ll remember surfing together in the morning, swimming alongside marine life, watching the sun go down from a sandbank, getting ready with the girls, laughing until your stomach hurts and somehow arriving home with a camera roll full of memories and a whole new group of girls in your life. 🥹🐚
See you in the Maldives!!! 🌺🐬🌴
